Heya! I am Carla (she/they) and I am very happy to work as an Associate Producer with Small Press Network for the 2022 Independent Publishing Conference.
I am Melbourne born and raised, and although it is a very Melbournian thing to complain about the ever-changing weather, I love going for a long walk and experiencing all that life has to offer: rain, hail and shine. And don’t get me started on the excellent coffee we sell down here (yes I work at a coffee kiosk, no I was not paid to say such).
Before my current Masters of Creative Writing, Publishing and Editing with the University of Melbourne, I obtained my Bachelor of Arts studying Theatre and Literature at Monash University. As you can tell, I’ve always loved the written and spoken word – with my BA allowing me to explore directorially the adaption of Shirley Jackson’s The Lottery and perform in the original cast of the new Australian musical, My Brilliant Career. Lockdowns, as we all know, put a halt to this forwards motion of work, whilst my masters helped me pick things up.
You can find some of my reviews on my Instagram account, where you can find many of my favourites and guilty pleasures. I am one for nostalgia so you will find a lot of young adult books which bury some of the contemporary fiction pieces. You can also find my work with Marketing Mag, where I write articles that explore marketing and advertising.
My website explores making theatre accessible online, with podcast episodes from theatre professionals – including MTC’s Petra Kalive and Born In A Taxi. If you have any questions or queries (or cat pictures!), please contact me through my website. Can’t wait to see you all very soon.
