Day three – Workshop day program, 27 November

On the final day of the 2021 Independent Publishing Conference, we will hear from our keynote speaker, a veteran of the publishing industry: Terri-ann White. She will discuss launching her new imprint Upswell during a pandemic, being realistic about the pitfalls of publishing, and will share advice on keeping the passion alive. The rest of the day has a very practical focus, with workshop sessions on working with booksellers, getting into libraries, the author-publisher relationship and more.

      Terri-Ann White has been a key part of the Australian book industry for her whole working life. Recently she launched perhaps her most ambitious project yet: Upswell Publishing.

      The relationship between author and publisher can be complex and, at times, fraught. But the way to avoid potential conflicts is for all involved to enter into the relationship armed with some foreknowledge and interpersonal skills.
