MEET ASSOCIATE PRODUCER KATIE FRIDMAN

Hi, my name is Katie Fridman. I am the Associate Producer for design at the 2020 Independent Publishing Conference. I’m excited to be part of the IPC this year, in a role that combines two of my passions: books and graphic design. My contribution is to create the program and promotional materials for the conference. I’m also delighted with the opportunity to profile some of Australia’s prominent book designers in an upcoming blog article.

I have been a freelance designer for the last three years, working as a jack of all trades. My work includes editorial design, digital, branding, packaging, and animation. I studied graphic design at Monash University, where I was drawn to book design and typography. My favourite books are all about books, from e-publishing to binding techniques and letterpress printing. During my honours year, I researched the design and typography of memorials. To this day, collecting font specimens remains a not-so-guilty pleasure.

I was born and raised in Melbourne, so true to form, I am a coffee tragic. I’m a passionate supporter of local creative communities—I volunteer at Trocadero Arts Space, a contemporary artist-run gallery, and I assist at The Design Kids Melbourne, a local networking group for young designers. In my spare time I can be found at circus training, engrossed in a sudoku puzzle, or browsing through a book fair, where I am too easily convinced to buy a book for its cover.

I’m excited to meet you virtually at IPC this year. Until then you can find me at LinkedIn, or on Instagram.
