Most Underrated Book Award 2017
Join us as we discover who has won the 2017 Most Underrated Book Award, sponsored by the Australian Booksellers Association.
Featuring fiction, micro-fiction, nonfiction and a graphic novel, this year’s shortlist highlights the diverse, risk-taking and creative work being published by independent publishers.
The winner will be announced during SPN’s Independent Publishing Conference in Melbourne at 6.15pm on Friday 17 November 2017, at a special edition of the Wheeler Centre’s ‘Next Big Thing’ series. This is a free event and bookings can be made online.
The Most Underrated Book Award, now in its sixth year, shines a light on titles from independent publishers that haven’t received the attention they deserve.
This year’s shortlist is:
- The Island Will Sink by Briohny Doyle (Brow Books)
- The Invisible War by Ailsa Wild, Briony Barr, Gregory Crocetti, Ben Huchings, Jeremy Barr (Scale Free Network)
- Loopholes by Susan McCreery (Spineless Wonders)
- Horse Island by Christina Kennedy (Zabriskie Books).
Previous winners are Creating Cities by Marcus Westbury (Niche Press), The Cook (Wayne Macauley, Text Publishing), Fish-Hair Woman (Merlinda Bobis, Spinifex Press), A Wrong Turn at the Office of Unmade Lists (Jane Rawson, Transit Lounge) and The Grapple Annual No. 1 (ed Duncan Felton, Grapple Publishing).
