Small Press Network mentorship program

The Small Press Network (SPN) is excited to offer a new year-long mentorship opportunity to Victorian members.

The mentorship program will match six Victoria-based SPN members with six established publishing professionals for a year-long mentoring relationship that will culminate in the launch of a publication (electronic or print) at the Melbourne Writers Festival.

For details of the program see below.

The SPN mentorship program is supported by Creative Victoria.

SPN Mentorship Program

What is it?

SPN will facilitate a structured mentorship program to guide small, independent publishers who are members or associate members of SPN through the production cycle of their literary works to be released in late 2017.

The program will provide publishing and business skills delivered by publishing professionals through six, one-hour structured face-to-face meetings.

Mentors and the Small Press Network will offer mentees support throughout the program to help guide development of high-quality products. One title from each mentee published during the program will be launched at the 2017 Melbourne Writers Festival with associated launch fees covered by SPN.

Who can apply?

The program is open to Victorian Small Press Network members and associate members (including those publishing their own work, but with the expectation that they will publish other writers in the future).

Mentees must be based in Victoria and able to self-fund attendance at scheduled mentoring sessions. While attendance is compulsory, subject to agreement, online (Skype) meetings will be possible.

Works across any genre will be considered.

How will mentees be chosen?

Applicants must detail their publishing experience, particular areas they would like the program to focus on, and the outcomes expected from participation in the program. The project mentors will form the assessment panel to select mentees, based on the viability, diversity and artistic merit of the applicants’ publishing goals.
